About us
The Rural Lands Protection Board system enhances the sustainability of New South Wales by leading rural communities in the protection of land and agricultural industries though delivering a frontline service.
The core areas of responsibility of the RLPB system, within a framework of corporate governance, are animal health, pest animal and insect control and travelling stock reserves.
A key mission is to provide an effective state animal health service while also promoting improved livestock health and productivity within each RLPB district. We work in close partnership with the NSW Department of Primary Industries and other government and industry stakeholders to carry out our goals.
Rural Lands Protection Boards assist producers ensure they have correctly identified their livestock and that stock movement is carried out in accordance with requirements.
They also assist with drought and natural disaster relief.
The RLPB system has its origins in the 1863 Scab in Sheep Act and for many years our local Boards were known as Pastures Protection Boards (or PP Boards).
The Rural Lands Protection Act 1998 constitutes each of the state’s 47 RLPBs and their governing body, the State Council of Rural Lands Protection Boards, as bodies corporate.
The State Council is responsible to the Minister for Primary Industries the Hon Ian Macdonald MLC.
The organisation works closely with industry and government organisations including the NSW Department of Primary Industries and other agencies.
